Our family who lived at 16 Church Road, Albrighton (called "The Oaks" in those days)had a girl evacuee from Smethwick whose brother was placed with our neighbour Mrs Roberts. Their names were Violet and John Moore. I was eight years old at the time but I remember they were very well behaved and I cannot recall any trouble with them, either at school or at our home.

For many years after they left, Violet wrote to my Mother at Christmas so she must have found our family as satisfactory as they found her. My mother is now living in a nursing home and is 92 years old.

Their parents visited Violet and John occasionally but travelling which was by train was very expensive and difficult. When they came, my father would give them produce which he had grown in the garden.

Violet and John were brought to our house by their parents and introduced by the District Nurse. They both had wavey blonde hair and were nice looking children. The general method of placing children was to keep either a school class or a particular road together to avoid too much stress for the children. I do not remember any crying or counselling etc., just a brief introduction and then off. I can't think such an event would prove satisfactory today.
