On VE Day a neighbour of mine, called Mrs Chick, didn't actually have a Union Jack flag so she dug out a pair of red knickers, a pair of blue knickers and a pair of white knickers (they were huge!) and hung them on her washing line. I was only 10 or 12 at the time but, I can remember it so vividly, as if it was yesterday! It was hilarious! I wish I had a photograph of it! But, it is an image emblazoned in my mind that I will never forget!
