This story was submitted by Wendy Young. It has been added on behalf of Mavis Dodwell with her permission. She fully understands the terms and conditions.

In 1942 I was six years old, and lived with my family in Harvey Street, Folkestone.
At the back of our house, we had a large dining room. On this particular Sunday, the family and some soldiers that were billeted with us, were sitting around the table eating our lunch. All of a sudden father shouted and pointed towards the window. We could see an enemy plane coming, all of a sudden it opened fire and bullets shot through the window. They first missed us and hit the wall and knocked all my mother's pictures down and broke them. She was very angry.
