My dad was called up when he was nearly 30. He had lived all his life in Dorset where he had a business as a Gentlemen's Hairdresser.

When he was called up I am sure his Company were delighted to have a barber among them. He was trained in mine disposal and then sent to Algiers.

Later in the campaign he became lost in the desert and was invalided out. He was of slight build at that time, being only nine stone. He had dark hair and a mostace and people said he looked like Ronald Coleman.

He did't say much about the war or his experiences in the desert but it must have been terrifying.

Sadly he died in 1967. If anyone rememers him, or heard their fathers mention his name, I would love to hear from them. He was called Bill Young.
