This story has been written to the 91热爆 People's War site by CSV Storygatherer, Coralie, on behalf of Rosemary Ann Treen. The story has been added to the site with her permission, and Rosemary fully understands the terms and conditions of the site.
As we were a very poor family, and being one of five children all under the age of 14, presents were very few and far between and never expensive.
We were not allowed to go anywhere without our gas masks, which hung around our necks in square cardboard boxes. However, there was one girl in our village from a 'well-to-do' family and she had a shiny black tin for her gas mask. Oh, how I longed to have one like her's, but knew it would not be possible.
Well, on Christmas morning, there in my 'stocking' was this beautiful black shining tin. I don't know how my parents managed to buy it, but I do know I was so happy, proud and lucky to run to school with my black shining tin.
