My Nanas Brother was living in Yorkshire at the beginning of the War and he became a Medical Officer out in North Africa.
Amidst the hot searing desert conditions and mostly freezing at night and I remember seeing a photograph of his Regiment in the foreground of a Vast Plain in the background. These arid conditions caused many casualties by themselves. Water was scarce and it was very easy to loose your way and die a horrible death, sometimes alone. The desert at night obviously wasn鈥檛 lit up by street lights and sometimes you could not see very far, and many kept going around in circles.
Basically I was told that he was out in North Africa and he was out in an ambulance carrying German Casualties when this German Aircraft came down and bombed them and all on board were killed.
My Nan came from Yorkshire 24 miles from Leeds, came to Leicester and the bridge that she used to go through ,in Strensal . The Kings Own Royal Yorkshire Regiment were stationed there. Leeds area was bombed and my Great-Grand-Father, actually went to make sure and meet them, she was stuck on the train for 12 hours.
