We lived in 3 Denis Park Crescent, Wimbledon SW20 during the war, my brother Allan, parents George and Doris. I was a child.
Most mornings, Germans would send incendiary bombs, a cylinder about the size of a litre bottle. They'd be lined up on the green, probably by the ARP and they'd be collected. We collected shrapnel that was very often hot. We used to keep it. We were eventually bombed, my brother and I were badly wounded.
We took everything in our stride. You missed out on education. My school, King's College Wimbledon, they took me back but I'd missed a lot.
