My husband was in the airforce, I was only 27 at the time my second child was born while the war was on and I had a home birth, I had to have donations of baby clothes and remember receiving 拢5 a week for first child born.
Woolworths sold items that cost no more than 6 pence saucepans etc, 3 pence for broken biscuits.
I remember a lady inspector coming around to look around your home to make sure it was kept clean if it wasn't you would be reported to corp.
Our town was bombed and all the shops and the church was ruined, the lace market area was bombed flat.
