The Christmas after we were evacuated, we had to go home to London because my father was very ill. He had pneumonia and slept on top the Morrison Shelter. We went to my aunts in Holloway. The adults went to the pub and left the teenagers in charge. There was a bomb blast/raid and the house got damaged, ceilings collapsed and the front door was blown off.
I can remember crawling down the long hallway and waiting on the steps for my mother to come back from the pub. We made our way home on the tube covered in dirt with assorted cousins. My aunt Doris subsequently died from her injuries, she had been on her way from the house to the pub.
