My nightmare started with a journey by bus on 3rd September 1939 when I was nine years old. We were given a tin of corned beef by our school for our new foster mum.
When I arived I was put in the local village hall and made to line up with other kids to be picked by a foster mum. I remember I was standing there a long while before I was picked. The lady I went with was not very loving, and I had to do a lot of houswork.
I vowed when I had my children, they would never be parted from me, war or no war because it did affect me in later life.
