This story was submitted to the People's War site by Martin Evans, on behalf of Michel Stockley and has been added to the site with his kind permission. Michel fully understands the site's terms and conditions.
I was six when the war broke out, and my Dad, who was a post man, was called up. That would be the last that I would see of him for the next five years.
We had evacuees, MOD workers and landgirls living with us over the war years. We didn鈥檛 have a bathroom so it was chaos. The girls bathed in the kitchen so we were barred from there.
I can also remember the blitz of Bath which killed 417 people in 3 raids over 2 nights.
