My Nan can remember Barrage Balloons over both Birkenhead and Liverpool. North Wales had many areas of moorland, mountain sides and these were sometimes deliberately set alight to
鈥淔ox鈥 the German aircraft away from the ports. She can also remember being taken to see some of the bomb craters that had resulted from this decoy procedure.
Much sadness was felt during those years of 1939 to 1945. Her mother and grandmother were very upset one day when news came through that a neighbour鈥檚 son had been killed in action, and another taken prisoner in France. Her own family suffered too, for her Father鈥檚 brother was taken prisoner by the Japanese, he never spoke of this.
