Sergant Pilot Peter Freer
65990 Sergant Pilot Peter Freer died in the air defending London from the German bombers on 11th May 1941, whilst serving with 29 Squadron. Flying a Bleheim fighter-bomber he fought bravely during an attack by over 500 German bombers but was shot down by a German fighter as he was in the process of landing back at his home base, Debdon.
Peter was born in Cottingham and studied at Hymers College, where a memorial plaque has recently been unvailed in his honour.
