My memories are of being evacuated when I was 5 to a farm of mixed crops and livestock. I collected eggs and learnt to milk cows. It was very difficult at such a young age to see the fires at night over Plymouth. I also remember waving to the crew of a crippled German bomber.

Back in London I remember playing in the bomb rubble watching the V1s falling from the sky: "It's OK the wind is taking it away, carry on playing!"

On D-Day I was awake at 4.30am and I looked out of my bedroom window and saw wave after wave of bombers. Why the black and white stripes, I wonder? They keep coming over for hours.
