I was born in July 1942, so when the war ended in Europe I was nearly three years old. I can distinctly remember being taken by my parents to the recreation ground at the top of Killigrew Road. There was the most enormous bonfire and crowds of people. In the harbour I can remember ships firing flares and rockets. I was two years and ten months old and this is my very earliest memory which I subsequently found out was VE night. And thats all I can say its something that has always stuck in my memory...
