I passed the 11 plus and went to Wiggeston School. I got there by travelling on the tram across Leicester and then walking to University Road.

A gang of us used to walk to Bradgate Park or Swithland Woods from Belgrave in Leicester with bottles of water and sandwiches.

I could see Coventry being bombed - the lights in the sky.
I remember a land mine being dropped just off Abbey Lane which damaged houses in that area.
