My sister and I both liked dolls, but you couldn't get them.
A relative said she would get us both a doll.
They were black dolls, shoes made of felt, red and white spotty dresses, eyes were buttons and the hair was wool.
They had red and white spotty knickers with a tie in their hair.
It was a surprise.
We had jigsaws mainly passed on.
Books were given to us.
Whatever you had, it was wonderful and you were grateful.
Houses were cold and all windows were blacked out.
We had a small chicken sometimes.
Stoves were small so people would bring their food to cook with a name on the tin to us and pay to use the bread oven (My father was a baker).
