My own wartime memories are of being evacuated down to Devonshire with my elder brother to a farm in the middle of nowhere, and being terribly homesick. We came back to Battersea during the "lull" in the bombing after the Blitz, but my father and I were nearly killed by a Doodlebug which wiped out 18 of our neighbours. Dad and I were in the air raid shelter, fortunately, the blast took the back of the house off. I could elaborate -- but it's not much of a story compared with what some people experienced.
