It was the 13th of November 1943, we were out of school on a lunch break from midday 'til half past one. I only lived five minutes from the schoolso i went home every day. I'd been home about five minutes when the air raid warning went, so i went outside to the shelter. Soon i heard several really loud bangs, i remember thinking "'ello, some poor sods 'ave copped it", the there were another 2 or 3 bangs.
Soon the all clear went and we came up from the shelter and went back into the house. we'd been up for several minutes when my cousin walked through the door, black as the ace of spades.

"Where've you been, what you been doin'" i said
he just stood there and laughed, looked at me and said "you don't need to go back to school after lunch"
"why's that" i said
"no windows, no doors. its wrecked" he said, smiling.

It tuned out that the bombs had landed on a row of houses that ran right by the school, and they had almost all been flattened. Now, at lunchtimes all the kiddy's that lived further away stayed at school for lunch. I thought to myself that if one of those bombs had drifted of target, they all woul have copped it.
