We had two ATS girls billeted in the house. They stayed with us for a couple of years or so.

I remember the knock on the door the night they arrived. Somebody at the door said 鈥淚鈥檝e got two girls out here, can you give them accommodation?鈥� That鈥檚 how it was done. My Mother said 鈥淵es, we鈥檝e got a spare bedroom鈥� and that was that.

We also had evacuees coming to Nottingham from London. I was quite sweet on of the girls (even at that age!) 鈥� Her name was Pamela. They joined our class at school and became part of our community as they were there at least a couple of years.
