My name is Doris Caterer and I am 100 years old. Of course I remember World War I, but I was only a young girl in those days.

I was married in the early 30鈥檚 and we set up home in Northfields, Ealing and lived in a large Edwardian terraced house.

The bombs started around 1940 and I can remember one occasion when in the middle of the night you could hear bombs exploding all over London and the Germans were trying to target the railways. However, there was one almighty bang and my husband, Rupert, put on his dressing gown and donned his Bowler hat (presumably for protection!) and went to investigate. To his horror the sweet shop a few yards away from our house and the grocery store were completely demolished. The people from the grocery store who lived in the basement were crying for help. The little lady from the sweet shop was found with her knitting in her hands and her legs crossed.
