I joined RAF volunteers reserve when I as 17. When I reached the age of 18, I was sent to Southbourne to defend the radio systems there from the Germans bombings. Unfortunately, we didn鈥檛 really have much to defend the station with.
After three years of serving on the land, I decided to become a pilot because flying was the reason I joined the RAF. I became an air gunner, and flew with Canadian Air Force as they were short of both air gunners and engineers. We flew over Germany and France, bombing railway yards in order to destroy the supplies of food and ammunition that there going to the German army.
I managed to last to the end of war, I had a luck of being in a very good crew, so the only thing I suffered from was the stress.
