On the night of the 14th November - we were called out early morning from Lichfield to help clear up. I was in South Staffs regiment - we were put on double decker buses and bought over to Coventry. We had to clear up the roads, it was a bloody mess.
During the war I was posted to Burma, and the best thing for me was coming back home!
When I came home, I was on the train from Taunton and the train stopped at a station and loads of kids came running up to us, banging on the windows and asking for gum! They thought we were American because we were wearing Bush Hats having just come from Burma.
