91热爆

I was brought to Rugby through the Labour Exchange and worked at BTH in 1935.
In 1939 the government wanted recruits and if you didnt want to go in the army you could go down the pits as a Bevin Boy.
I joined the LDB the forerunner of the 91热爆 Guard at Lawrence Sherrif School. I had a rifle, 150 rounds of ammunition in my house and the only uniform I had was a greatcoat.
I guarded the waterworks in Rugby and was ther e when Coventry was bombed- I heard the planes going back .
I was on guard outside the Clifton Inn in case there was an invasion.
We made mines at BTH for the Navy.
Later I worked for BTH producing material for the RAF.
I saw the first jet engine Sir Frank Whittle tested there- there were flames and an amazing noise right into the side of the canal.
We had concerts in the lunch hour- Workers Playtime to give us a break from the work.
I was never called up until February 1945- I think I must have been in a reserved occupation.
