This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Mairi Campbell of the 91热爆 on behalf of Doreen Shaw of the Glasgow Old Peoples Welfare Association and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

My most vivid memory of VE night was walking with a crowd of teenagers from Springburn to George Square where it seemed the whole of Glasgow had gathered to suing and dance the night away. Round 3am we decided to walk home. We had not gone very far when a midden motor which was being driven by a brother of one of the boys, he stopped and gave us a lift. The girls managed to squeeze into the cabin but the boys had to sit on the rubbish. There were no black bags in those days so it must have been very dirty and smelly. They still sang all the way home.
