Collected at the Help the Aged coffee room in Cambridge, by Philippa Geering.

In Newport, one of the first bombs fell in one of the fields on our farm. My brother and I didn't know what bombs were, I was only fourteen - we thought it was exciting. So after it fell we were about to pick up a piece of the red-hot shrapnel when my father shouted at us to stop. I was so popular at work the next day.
