I would like to bring attention to the members of the "Boy Messengers" who never receive any mention for their service.

My brother was 14 years old when the war started and was a "Boy Scout". The messengers were recruited from the Scouts and Boys Brigade. When the siren sounded in the evening or during the night, these young boys would cycle to a pre-determined wardens post. In the event of the failure of ordinary communications they would cycle to deliver messages as required. As the school leaving age was 14 many of these boys were already in full time employment.
