I was born just before the war broke out in a small Leicestershire village. My father died in 1941 but not as a result of war. We moved to a farm in Nuneaton. In 1943 my mum got a job as a housekeeper to a farmer in Ansley. The farmer's son was in the auxillary fire service so he would be on duty every so often. In the end we lived there til 1951.

We went to stay quite often with my aunt and uncle and they had a morrison shelter which we would play in. Nuneaton was bombed during the war. I remember going to a bonfire at the end of the war.

There were some prisoners of war that worked on the farm at Ansley. They probably came from Anbury Hall. One prisoner of war chose to stay after the war ended. I can remember having to be particular about putting up blinds and blacking out windows.
