During the war, four of us with husbands away fighting, or at sea, assembled every Sunday at my aunt's house.
We had a meal and our husbands' photographs were placed on the table. We each had a 'set time' (mine was John time). This was at 10 p.m.
Each of us would stop at our 'special' time and say a prayer for their safety.
We had soda scones, and for a treat toffees made with liquid parrafin and mint essence - what luxury!!
Before the meal my Aunt would say F.K.O., this meant Family Keep Off. We would wait our turn to eat, any visitors were allowed to eat first.
