I came to England at 16 to go to boarding school at Wentworth Hall in High Esher, Surrey, 1935. I was born in Berlin. I am Jewish. I went back to England in 1938 shortly followed by my parents and my sister and brother in 1939 followed just in time.

My brother and my future husband joined the pioneer corps at the outbreak of war. I was introduced to my husband by my brother at Emperors Hall which is now Earls Court in 1939. After we got married I joined the ATS and served in it, becoming a corporal and was stationed in Lancaster Barracks for approximately a year. This was a centre for people to enrol in the army. During this period her husband was sent to fight in Dunkerque and was later posted to an army barracks in High Wycombe.

She was then posted to Oxford where she became a quartermaster and helped the young ATS girls. This is where her unit made the connection to Churchill with Roosevelt. Her CO (Corporate officer) informed her that she was considered an "enemy alien" and was dismissed, with no further explanation. She was heartbroken as nobody in the British Army could be more patriotic. As a result she was moved to Didcot. so I decided with my husband to start our family.
My name in the ATS was Inge Munz.
