Nearby on Dauckets Common, there was Army Artillery. I was playing in the garden with my two cousins, we were all very young, it was about 1943. A stray German plane eluded the artillery and swooped down on us and started firing. We threw ourselves on the ground and covered our heads with our arms and hoped it would go away, we were frightened! Soon after it was shot down, but we don't know where it landed..
