I am researching my grandfather's wartime history. He was Alfred (Chalkey)White who served in the 8th Bn The Rifle Brigade. His great 'mate' for the early part of the campaign was Harold Shutz. Harold was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for an action at Louvain on th night of 2/3 September 1944 when Harold took command of his platoon after both the platoon officer and sergeant had been killed. Tragically, Harold died only a few days later on 18 Sept 1944, killed by an accidental discharge from his own Sten gun. He is buried in Leopoldsburg War Cenetary and I believe was the son of David and Milly Shutz of Whitechapel, London. With a surname as unusual (at least for a British serviceman)as Shutz, I wonder if any of Harold's relatives are still alive? I have a number of pictures of my grandfather's platoon and would like to identify Harold Shutz if I can.
