One lunch-time I disappeared.
I had gone up to the G.I. barracks nearby to get some chewing gum.
They were very friendly and I was soon chatting away.
Eventually my mother appeared, very distressed and gave me a good telling-off and took me home.
You see I had been given chewing gum before when the G.I's were marching along to the dockyard and my friends and I were playing and watching them.
We chanted "Got any gum chum, got any candy Andy?"
Mum didn't know this or I would have been in trouble!
