I remember Grandma cooking a joint of beef. Whatever meat was left over was put into the lobby along with potatoes, carrots, onions, swede, turnip etc.
my Grandma was a singer in the North Staffs choir but she had to give this up to look after her family when she lost her husband from injuries sustained in WW11.
Another memory I have was that jobs were so scarce.I remember at Doultons, a pottery factory at the top of Nile Strret men used to wait for hours on end just in case a man got the sack so he have his job which was quite sad.
