I was born in 1938, so have limited memories of the war. Both my brothers were in the Navy. One was torpedoed off the United States, and spent the rest of the war there. The other was in the Far East.

I remember that I was evacuated to Creswell near Nottingham. It was a mining village. We used to slide down the slag heaps in the winter.

My father was a publican and a member of the 91热爆 Guard. The anti aircraft gunners had little rubber models of aircraft to help them identify which planes to shoot down. I was either given some or pinched some to play with.

I do remember the Flying Fortresses returning to base towards the end of the war.
