This story as submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Andrew Parsons from Age Concern and has been added to the website on behalf of Patricia Davies with her permission and they fully understand the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.

I was 13 when the War started and I鈥檝e lived in Sevenoaks Weald all of my life including during War times.
One of my main memories is of the Battle of Britain and various dog-fights overhead.
An incident I remember well occurred when I was working on a farm in the fields near Tonbridge in the summer of 1944. A flying bomb went overhead and a Spitfire was in close pursuit, I ran behind a farm building to try and avoid falling shells but continued to watch the flight of the Doodlebug. It flew straight through barrage balloons that surrounded the area, however, and the poor spitfire pilot stayed to close and was hit!
