I was born in Hathersage, Derbyshire in 1932.
My family has lived in the same house since 1903 and my youngest brother still lives there.

I was seven years old in school when a bomb dropped near the school. There was no damage to the windows but I remember one cow being killed in the village.

Three bombs were dropped near the village during the bombing of Sheffield but as children we still felt safe in the village and because my family were farmers we lived very well - the war prompted the Government to look after farmers.

My mother had a store cupboard full of tinned food.
My younger sister thought that tinned pears were potatoes.
