I was evacuated in 1941 to Cheshire. It took a long time to get there. I stayed there with my sister until the end of the war. I was 11 when I was evacuated.
A year ago I went back and we called into a pub were the locals were sitting chatting when we walked in there was silence as we were strangers. I said that we were just here on a sentimental occasion and explained that I was evacuated here during the war. One person asked where I stayed and he said he remembered me.
We were moved on from the first house we stayed because we didn鈥檛 like it. The second house we lovely and we stayed here until the end of the war.
