I was working at Wembley in a NAAFI. I was the only woman aircraft inspector and the training instructor told all the men (I was the only woman there) not to swear in front of the young lady! I got married in 1939, saw my husband for a couple of weekends and never saw him again for five years. He was like a stranger to me but we went on to have 40 happy years together.
I worked for Frigidaire at the North Wembley factory and during this time I was in pub called the Intrepid Fox in Soho when the building next door was bombed. The ceiling came down and everyone was covered in soot and we all went home on the underground completely covered in soot. Winston Churchill came down the street to see the damage.
