This story was submitted to the People's War website by Rachel Newland on behalf of David Laishley-Hayward, the author and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I was 6 years old at the time and had come home from school for lunch, main course finished next came apples and custard, as my spoon entered the bowl the last VII rocket hit Tooting, no apples and custard for me.

My Mother and Sister are both still alive 95 and 72 years old respectively and still pull my leg over the apples and custard.
