We can also see craftsmen at work, as they constructed the vessels for the invasion fleet. One of the most famous images of this great campaign is of the Norman soldiers with their chain-mail and helmets with distinctive nose-guards. What English schoolchildren have in their minds when we think of Norman soldiers is the pictures based upon these images in the tapestry at Bayeux.
