Have Your Say

Do you have any memories of the old Worcester Royal Infirmary? What do you make of plans to turn it into a University campus?

As long as the new building is in keeping with the nearby buildings and complelemnts the style. So often new is drab and plain. I do have a slight connection with the WRI. My Great Grandfather's second wife Ann Maria Leese died in the Infirmary on 6 July 1883.

I have good memories of leading worship in the Chapel from 1985 until it closed. The Annual Nurses League Service always filled the building, but porters were also good at bringing the few patients who were sufficiently able and wanted to come Sunday by Sunday. I am delighted that it is to preserved at the heart of the University's new campus.

my father was head gardener at the WRI until he retired, i used to accompany him week-ends to tend to the greenhouses & plants. We made many friends with the nurses & maids

i think it is a wonderful idea to make it into a uni.it preserves the site and its central to all amenities.

I worked in the "old" WRI for over a year back in the early '80s. It was a great experience for a young American exploring the world. I made several good friends and had a wonderful time while there, and still miss Worcester to this day.

The British Medical Assoc- iation was founded by Sir Charles Hastings (1794-1866) at a meeting in the Board Room of Worcester Infirmary on July 19, 1832. July 19, 1932 is the date of birth of Mary Barfield of Oakland, California, AKA: Marian Etta Ringo of Texas. She is supposed to be my birth mother. I don't really know her.

I do hope that the site is better maintained than a lot of the current college sites which appear to be poorly maintained and thus add nothing to the character of Worcester.

I have extremely fond memories of the Infirmary, Chapel and Board Room (where the first meeting of the BMA took place). I understand that the University of Worcester are very keen to preserve the Chapel and Board Room. This will be one way of ensuring that this historical site will remain to be seen by future generations in Worcester. It would be good at that stage if some of the old artefacts from these rooms could be restored to their original home.
