Many members of the Baskerville family are buried in the graveyard. 听
The ruined church of St Mary's at Avenbury near Bromyard is one of the county's most historic and religious, and is first listed as belonging to a wealthy priest called Sprites in 1066 - it also contains the remains of the graves of two members of the Baskerville family. You can find the base of crosses to Hannah Elizabeth (Bessie) Baskerville and James Baskerville, who died on 11 September 1921 aged 69. They were both members of the Baskerville family from Kington and the Welsh borders, who are alleged to have influenced the writing of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; if only he could have visited the marvellously atmospheric ruins of St Mary鈥檚, Avenbury!听 More on the connections between the Hound of The Baskervilles and Herefordshire: last updated: 08/12/2008 at 09:28 You are in: Hereford and Worcester > Places > Places Stories > The Baskerville family graves
