A49

More information on one of the roads running through Herefordshire where there have been a cluster of serious road accidents.

Map of the A49 in Herefordshire

Map used courtesy of Ordnance Survey

The MP for Leominster, Bill Wiggin, has raised the number of accidents on the A49 in Parliament.听

In 2005 villagers in Ashton launched a safety campaign, after there were three deaths in crashes near the village in the space of eight months. In response the Highways Agency installed a vehicle-activated sign warning drivers, near a bend where there had been several crashes.

Villagers in Wellington Heath campaigned for a lower speed limit and a crash barrier, after several houses in the village were hit by vehicles.

This map shows where some of the accidents have happened:

1. Ashton

Two killed when two lorries collide in June 2004. A man dies after a crash between a car and a tipper truck in April 2006.

2. Lyde

Two brothers died and another two people were injured in a collision involving two cars in November 2007

3. Dinmore Manor

A man died in November 2005 when the van he was in veered off the carriageway near to the turning to Dinmore Manor.
