Author Steve Jackson popped into 91热爆 Hereford and Worcester to talk about his book, The Mentor, over a Pie and a Pint with Tony Fisher. Two weeks after finishing his A-levels, Steve became a journalist and although he hated having to meet deadlines, he says the newsroom taught him all about the discipline of writing. On the run-up to his 30th birthday, Steve took some time out to write his first novel, but it took another three books before he finally made it. The Mentor was born after Betty Schwartz, who used to be Hodder and Stoughton's submissions editor, contacted Steve after a big British thriller. In the end, Harper Collins bought the book, but Steve had only originally written The Mentor as a stand-alone, and they wanted a sequel, so Steve went on to write The Judas and The Watcher.
