Arthur Etheridge, from Hope Carriers Trust, has been helping the local community in a very poor area of Romania, called Ineu, for nearly ten years. Every year, Arthur and his team fill four huge lorries with real, practical aid. Because they have been doing this for so long they know exactly how to get the aid straight to the children who need it the most. The trust has already supported an orphanage for children with learning difficulties, and another for children with HIV. They have rescued children from the streets, and now give them a safe and happy home where they can learn to be children again. Many of the children have forgotten how to smile because they have never had anything to smile about. Hope Carriers Trust has just bought a house for the orphans who have been rescued from the streets. Unfortunately it's very old and decrepit, and needs a complete refurbishment. Arthur has a wish list of things to go into his next lorry to get the house up and running: - Radiators
- Plumbing equipment, baths, toilets, pipes etc
- Internal doors
- Complete windows
- Decorating equipment
- Carpet
- Curtains
Once the house is complete, the orphans will need: - Chairs
- Tables
- Bedding
- Clothes
- Shoes
- Toys
Hope Carriers Trust is also teaching the older children a trade, so they will have a better chance of getting a job when they are old enough. Arthur has found a skilled carpenter willing to teach the youngsters, so now they really need woodworking tools to get them started. He is also looking for gardening tools so they can grow their own vegetables and feed themselves and their community.
