Just how much rain can fall from the sky in such a short period of time?

The recent thunder and lightning storms have caused chaos and devastation for many people across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Houses flooded, roads covered by large volumes of water, manhole covers missing - removed by rising water - and reports of raw sewage floating down streets because the drainage system cannot cope with the amount of water all at once.

Miss S.M.Hadley
I live in Lyttleton& discovered my cellar flooded out. I dont suppose I'm the only one, but we had camping gear, wood & coal. The water rose up to the bottom stair, it's still quite a mess, so have put boards down to reach the freezer. Also there was a mighty bang last night which put the electric off, candles we used for a while. It must be bad for those living in Waterworks Rd, so near to the river,I have every sympathy with them
