Mark Kermode's view: "The Boy with No Name had a terrific fairytale quality.Ìý I loved the simplicity of the animation with lovely old fashioned, rudimentary illustrations.Ìý A very well told and haunting story, well executed - so congratulations to Adam Smith."

I saw the short here where I live in the Maryland Film Festival while I was volunteering as Tech Check. It was probably one of the greastest things I have ever seen that left me in a state of awe and meloncholy.

neil king

i am the maker of this film and just thought i would write a reply to the comment made by josh. i really hope i did not offend you, it was not my intention to make any comments about orphans in this film it was merely a device for telling the story.i did not mean to imply that being an orphan gave him the feeling of being from another world, indeed it was not even the arms on his head it was just a feeling he had. in all honesty the character is based on myself and a feeling i often had about just not belonging in the places or situations i was in. roy being an orphan was merely a means to not have to explain his past too much,i felt if he had parents and a family it would have added an extra element to the story which i simply did not have time to cover being that its only a 5 min film

josh
as a film maker, and once young orphan, i do not agree with the story line of this film. the abstract distinctions you place on this character do not relate to being an orphan. we all are from the same world. it is those around us that do not see, that do not understand. they are the ones from the outside world. i expected a lot from this film and i see no connection to what is the core values of an orphans thoughts. my opinions were skewed into 10 directions on this film. i have to say good cinematography and animation. but the story lost me in what was really being said. are we really that different that we are from a different world. josh
