Who do you think should benefit from the Gloucestershire Flood Relief Fund?

Im hoping to get in touch withsomeone in the floodfund to support the familys who lost loved ones.My young neice has asked if the floodfund could help to pay for her twin daughters gravestone.They lost them during the floods.Since the tragic loss,they have just had a little girl,fit and healthy.I think to pay for all memorials for the familys would be of great help.With all that has been collected,small price to pay out,thankyou

I got to admit the four weeks it was flooding i felt famous. Gloucestershire get **** (expletive) in the news and all we're noticed for is our rugby club. Everyday i saw where i lived and my area and it was on the news everyday so atleast we're getting noticed.

My elderly mother & father have lost everything in thier bungalow. They are now living in a small caravan and have just been turned down a SECOND time for a contribution from this so called "flood relief fund". They have been asked to put down a lot more information, how much information do these people need - they have lost EVERYTHING and have duly paid their taxes, insurances and worked hard all their lives. Even if they got paid their excess on their current insurance policy, that would be something - but NO NOTHING, where is this money going? My father has suggested donating to the Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service for purchasing more boats, and to the Air Ambulance who all serve the people of Gloucestershire. A VERY frustrated daughter of flood victims!

All the children that have had their homes flooded and are living in caravans or rented accomodation or with relatives how good it would to give them vouchers to spend on fun activites or days out.

I feel extremely sorry for the citizens of Gloucester. I lived there for 2 years and loved the area and the people. But I know how resilient the people of this town are and it I know they will pull themselves through this terrible tragedy. Our prayers from America are with you.

everybody who lost somethinng. as we know some people lost animals and one person died, well everyone who lost someone deserves some comfort even if the things they lost can't be replaced

my insurance company told me i was not entitled to a pay out just because my property was not actually flooded. i was still inconvenienced by the bad weather and had to miss out on a days work. i have 6 kids for goodness sake. What exactly do i get cover for i wonder?

What a bunch of cynics. A fund is a fund. Yet another element of good will shown by people for people in need. Insurance or not, whatever the reason, these people need help. This is a devastating time for anyone affected. I expect you whingers would all be the first to moan if something wasn't done to help. Or the first to grab some money if it happened to you. Before judging those who do not have insurance, have you thought why? Do you know the cost of insuring a flood-risk property? I doubt it. Do you know the cost of insurance for those who are financially vulnerable? Probably not. Have you volunteered to help? Have you had your hands in dirty water you do not know what it contains? Have you helped anyone in need? Have you just queued up for water for yourself? Hmmmm.

The Swillgate River needs to be properly fenced on both sides for its entire length through Tewkesbury. This stream has frighteningly steep banks and is fully accessible from the public space on the Vineyards. This river took a young life during the floods. Fence it off properly now. The money is there!

I find the idea of a "fund" a little strange, whithout knowing exactly what the money is to be spent on people are donating..I live in Cheltenham and have been without mains water for as long as everyone else around me. Fortunately our basement flat has not been affected by the water and I'm thankful for that, but we had to go away at the weekend to a hotel to have a shower, will the fund cover this? I hope not, we can thankfully afford to do this. I think my overall feeling is that this fund has been set up so unaffected people can donate to help others but without any clear gloals will their hard earned monday be well spent and well accounted for?Personally I feel any money donated should go toward rebuilding or reopening facilities for the entire community.ThanksMatt

Customers at Gloucester's Friday farmers' market generously donated 拢167.76 to the Mayor's flood fund on Friday 27th July, when volunteers gave away free tea and coffee to all comers all day. 300 cups were served. Thanks to Frank's Luxury Biscuits and Starbucks Gloucester for their generous donations of cakes, cookies, gateaux and milk for the cafe and thanks to all our busy volunteers. someone said that its not right that people in country without insurance shouldnt be getting the help. well i'm sorry but for most its because they cant actally get insurance for their house or its so high that they can afford it and not because they cant be botherd to get it.

Many people affected by this flood are not able to get insurance because of their proximty to water.As somone who was almost flooded by the picturesque 'stream' near our house 7 years ago, I can understand how suprising and shocking it can be to wake up and find your property inches from being invaded by foul smeilling water. We shouldn't judge who is 'worthy' to recieve financial help. How would we feel if it was our home/family/possessions? If we've got it to give - then give it, if not now for this reason then some other time. There will always be a need to give to others and have them 'get something for nothing' - if we can give cheerfully with no strings attached then the better for us all.

i have been flooded twice in the cotswolds and have been told by cotswold district council that they have no grant to help us that have been flooded as it wasnt as bad but does it matter if its 2 ft or 5 ft a flood is a flood

I am fed up with people in this country getting everything for nothing. If people cannot be bothered to get insurance then they should live with the consequences. Harsh but true.

Quite simply,anyone and everyone,who has been affected by the flood. Whether or not people are insured,should not make any difference.They have all been through this catastrophy together.

I feel it is highly inappropriate at this time when people are losing their lives to judge anyone on whether they took out insurance or not. Who cares? I think the money should go to anyone in an attempt to meet their basic human needs and hopefully will be of comfort to them in what is clearly their time of need! TLC is what these people require not critisism and I'm sure following this heart rendering experience everyone affected will "pay it forward" in a means they see fit.

Ive been thinking now about getting home contents insureance this week event tho i was not effected its worth having. But if people are getting money to help is it worth it? Id be paying for it and could even get it for free if something did happen!

If it is decided that money from the relief fund is given to those who chose not to take out insurance then I wonder whether there is a case for expecting them to pay at least some of it back, over time, into the charity for the benifit of future flood victims; there are many who have gone without holidays etc so that they can afford to pay for insurance on their house and contents.
