Kale is a distinctive vegetable with grey-green feathery leaves. It can be grown in the border where it perks things up in winter, and doubles as a cut-and-come-again vegetable for stir fries and salads. Sow in modules, and transplant six to eight weeks later, planting them firmly together. Weed and water well until established, but then cut back on watering or you'll end up with lush growth that might get killed in winter. Remove all flower shoots. Kale is the hardiest winter vegetable.
